PeachCare for Kids® – Affordable Health Coverage for Georgia Families

PeachCare for Kids® – Affordable Health Coverage for Georgia Families

August 26, 20252 min read

When your family earns too much to qualify for Medicaid but still struggles to afford private insurance, it can feel like you’re stuck in the middle. That’s where PeachCare for Kids® comes in — Georgia’s version of the national Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

At Mere Benefits, we don’t handle PeachCare applications directly, but we help families understand if their children may qualify — and most importantly, we make sure the rest of the household has the coverage they need.

What Is PeachCare for Kids®?

PeachCare for Kids® provides comprehensive health coverage to uninsured children in Georgia whose families earn more than Medicaid allows but less than it takes to comfortably afford private insurance.

It includes:

  • Primary and preventive care

  • Specialist visits

  • Dental and vision care

  • Hospital stays and ER services

  • Prescription medications

  • Mental health care

Who Qualifies for PeachCare?

A child may qualify if they:

  • Are a Georgia resident

  • Are a U.S. citizen or legal resident

  • Are under age 19

  • Live in a household with income at or below 247% of the Federal Poverty Level

  • Do not have other major medical health insurance (dental and vision are allowed)

Monthly premiums range from $0 to $70 for children aged six and older, depending on family income. Children in federally recognized American Indian or Alaska Native tribes may qualify for free coverage.

Why It’s Great for Kids — and Why Parents Still Need Help

PeachCare for Kids® can be an incredible resource for children’s health, but it doesn’t cover the adults in the household.

If you’re a parent, caretaker, or grandparent raising children, you still need your own coverage — and that’s where we step in.

We help parents explore:

  • Marketplace plans with subsidies (often for $0 or low monthly premiums)

  • Employer-based insurance and how to evaluate it

  • Medicare for those who are eligible due to age or disability

  • Private PPO options for more provider flexibility

Next Steps if You Think Your Child May Qualify

  1. Visit the PeachCare for Kids® website to review eligibility and apply.

  2. Once your child’s coverage is in place, contact us to make sure you and other adults in the household are covered.
