Original Medicare only covers these benefits when they are related to inpatient or outpatient medical necessity.

DENTAL COVERAGE

While Medicare provides limited dental coverage to protect your general health for a smooth Medicare-covered health service, it does not cover routine checkups, cleanings, fillings, dentures (full or partial), or most tooth extractions. Medicare Supplements won't cover these benefits either. However, some Medicare Advantage plans may include additional dental benefits as part of their network-based plan.

VISION COVERAGE

Original Medicare typically does not cover routine eye exams, eyeglasses, or contact lenses. It only pays for corrective lenses following cataract surgery that implants an intraocular lens, but this benefit is limited to one standard pair of eyeglasses or one set of contact lenses per lifetime. Part B covers glaucoma screenings every 12 months for high-risk individuals, as well as eye prostheses and certain diagnostic tests and treatments for eye diseases and conditions. For routine eye exams and additional eyewear, you'll need a standalone plan or one that includes vision benefits.

HEARING BENEFITS

Original Medicare does not cover hearing aids. Part B covers some hearing tests, such as diagnostic hearing and balance exams, which can be accessed through your primary care provider. After receiving a recommendation for additional treatment, Part B will cover a portion of the costs.

We recommend enrolling in a standalone plan that combines dental, vision, and hearing benefits for the best coverage. The monthly premium is low, providing more comprehensive coverage than Original Medicare alone.
